About

My birth name is Jessica Folsom. However, over the past year I’ve affectionately accumulated the nicknames “Wholesome Folsom”, “Granny J” and the most recent ”Jyess”. When people ask for my opinion, I usually disappoint them by giving them the truth. I’m a huge fan of words well written. I delight in having to listen to songs, read books or listen to sermons that I have to marinate on multiple times to truly appreciate. I’d rather talk about theology than fashion. In May 2000, I surrendered my life to Jesus, and since then life has been anything but boring.

I’m just me.

In case you were wondering, the title of this blog “Merely a Vessel” comes from 2 Corinthians 4:7, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us.”

One time I chaperoned a middle school dance.  Upon seeing everyone clinging to the wall for dear life, I ignorantly said, “It’s not like you guys are in middle school.”  Then reality set in.  Job well done, Captain Obvious.

My songwriting career lasted for about 2 songs.  Both of which are on a friend’s debut album.  Now I  have proof to show my future children that their mother was indeed a cool cat.

One night in college, during a tumultuous thunderstorm, I woke up at 2 AM to the sound thunder crashing.  Jolted from my sleep, I sat up in my bed and immediately said, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”  My befuddled roommate just looked at me while I followed up with, “Well… it is” as I directly fell back  asleep.

One of my guy friends told me that I was the funniest girl he had ever met.  I hope he was being sincere (either that or he’s a convincing liar).

Holla ‘atcha girl,

~Jyess
